A UFH thermostat continuously monitors the air temperature and turns on the heating when it falls below the temperature set on the thermostat. It also turns the heating off once the set temperature is reached. Using the automatic settings on your thermostat, you can set the heating to come on at different times of the day to suit your lifestyle. For example, to warm up a cool house in the morning, or to switch the heating on before you arrive home from work. The thermostat will atomically turn on your heating until it reaches the desired temperature.
For accurate temperature readings, underfloor heating room thermostats should be positioned in a location where they can receive a free flow of air from the room. Avoid placing them behind curtains, in the path of a draft or near a heat source, such as a log burner or other heater.
In most cases, it’s generally cheaper to set a timer that ensures your heating is on when you need it, rather than letting your heating run all day. Underfloor heating uses a lower water temperature across a wider area, so it can take longer to heat up. However, if the water is coming from your boiler, then the boiler will still have to work to generate enough hot water for the system. So overall, it may be cheaper and less wasteful not to leave your heating on all day.
